Wakefield Rheumatology comprises a group of independently practicing rheumatologists and a physiotherapist who assist in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of rheumatological conditions.
First established in 2002, the team at Wakefield Rheumatology continue to strive to provide high quality and experienced specialist care in a warm, welcoming, and friendly environment.

Dr Scott Graf

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Scott Graf MBBS (Hons) FRACP graduated with honours from the University of Adelaide in 2004 after being awarded The Frank S. Hone Memorial Prize and The Sir Trent Champion de Crespigny Memorial Prize. He completed advanced training in Rheumatology at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre and was awarded his FRACP in Rheumatology in 2012. In addition to his private rheumatology practice, Dr Graf held the position of Staff Specialist in General Medicine at the Royal Adelaide Hospital from 2013-2015. Dr Graf has an interest in medical research and education and provides ongoing support and training to junior rheumatologists. He has been the previous Medical Director of the Arthritis Foundation of SA and is the current Secretary of the SA branch of the Australian Rheumatology Association.
Dr Peter Penglis

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Peter Penglis; MBBS PHD FRACP, is a Rheumatologist, with an interest in rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and gout. Dr Penglis completed FRACP qualifications in 1997 and PHD studies in 2000 and was a visiting specialist to the Royal Adelaide Hospital from 2004 to 2021.
Dr Sajini Basnayake

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr. Basnayake MBBS FRACP is a dedicated and compassionate rheumatologist with over a decade of experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions. With a focus on individualized care, Dr. Basnayake works closely with each patient to develop personalized treatment plans aimed at improving quality of life and managing chronic conditions such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Psoriatic Arthritis, osteoarthritis, and spondyloarthropathies and other Autoimmune connective tissue diseases. Dr Basnayake has a special interest in treating patients with Myositis and has had training in musculoskeletal imaging.
Dr. Basnayake undertook Rheumatology Training in Adelaide, and was awarded FRACP in 2014, and has had training in London, UK and in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She has completed a post graduate certificate in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound. She is involved in educating medical students in Rheumatology. As a passionate advocate for patient education, Dr. Basnayake is committed to helping patients understand their conditions and the importance of long-term management strategies.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Basnayake stays at the forefront of medical advancements in the field and regularly attends national and international conferences to ensure patients receive the best care available.
Mr Matthew Beard

Physiotherapist
Matthew Beard: BSc (Hons), BAppSc, Grad Cert, MSc. Following graduation as a physiotherapist in 1989, initial clinical practice involved inpatient hospital and rehabilitation services. Later post graduate study has guided a clinical interest in the role of active management for conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and spinal disorders. Currently Matthew balances private practice and a public hospital role as the Lead Physiotherapist, Spinal Assessment Clinic. This appointment has allowed ongoing collaboration with researchers at multiple universities.
Dr Vandana Bhushan

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Vandana Bhushan (MBBS, FRACP) is a Consultant Rheumatologist with experience in both private practice and the public hospital system. She completed her rheumatology advanced training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre. Dr Bhushan is currently also a Staff Specialist in both Rheumatology and General Medicine at the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals. Dr Bhushan has completed research in biologic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, exploring its retention rates. Additionally, she has been involved in studies on myositis and scleroderma. With dual specialisations in both Rheumatology and General Medicine, she brings a comprehensive and holistic approach to managing complex medical conditions. She has a special interest in inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Her interest extends to managing rheumatic immune-related adverse events.
Dr Fiona Goldblatt

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Fiona Goldblatt MBBS (Hons), PhD, FRACP, works at Wakefield House Rheumatology and as a Staff Specialist at Flinders Medical Centre and Repatriation General Hospital. She graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1994 and completed Rheumatology training in Adelaide, a PhD at Flinders Medical Centre/Flinders University and post-doctoral research at the University College London on a NH&MRC Neil Hamilton Fairley Fellowship. Dr Goldblatt has particular clinical and research interests in SLE and is the current President of ARA (SA) and a Director on the Australian Rheumatology Association Board.
Dr Anita Lee

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Anita Lee; MBBS, FRACP, PhD, CCPU (Rheumatology) undertook Rheumatology training in South Australia and thereafter completed a thesis in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Rheumatology Practice in 2008 through the University of Adelaide. She has taught and spoken both nationally and internationally aiming to upskill rheumatologists in musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr Lee has developed an accredited national musculoskeletal ultrasound teaching course based in Adelaide. Her interests include assessment in early arthritis including rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, as well as using imaging to aid in diagnosis and management of crystal arthritis at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Additionally, Dr Lee participates in ongoing collaborative worldwide efforts to introduce and embed Point of Care Rheumatology Ultrasound (POCRUS) into clinical practice.
Dr Barbara True

Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Barbara True; MD(USA), FRACP. Completing her medical training and fellowship in rheumatology (University of Virginia) in the US, Dr True completed her Australian qualifications in 1998 and has worked in private practice since then. Her interests are in adult rheumatology, fibromyalgia and narrative practice.

Our doctors require your referral to be forwarded to us before an appointment time can be allocated.

For all consultations, please be aware that it is ultimately the responsibility of the attending patient to provide a current referral from the referring doctor to be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
Waiting Times
The waiting time for your consultation will vary depending on the individual doctor and the urgency of the referral. Please send the referral to us so that it can be assessed by the relevant doctor. You will be contacted with the allocated appointment time.
Medicare and Fees
Please note that full payment is required on the day at the end of your consultation. The fee varies depending on the doctor, consultation time and complexity. You will be eligible for a Medicare rebate if you have provided a current referral from your referring doctor. We provide electronic claiming/reimbursement.
